Background: An Overview

Very little is known about Hogun's past. Odin the All-Father knows it. The rest of the Asgardian court does not. Hogun's closest friends do not. He is more than comfortable leaving it that way.

Background: The Details

Childhood: Hogun grew up as one of the performers in the only village of half-elves. Half-elf, half-vanir, the halftar people were shunned by both races that created them. They survived, tolerated by the Vanir, on the edge of the main city, creating and performing plays that the Vanir would come to watch, and most important pay money to see. The 'peace' was not to last, for a marauding band led by Mogul destroyed the village, killing nearly everyone and taking captive the rest. The Vanir King refused to see him, when Hogun went to the palace to beg for assistance. He had been thrown out, wounded, and ignored. With two of his brothers and his father, Hogun healed and the four of them set of to track Mogul and rescue whom they could. The attack did not go as planned, and Hogun's family died before him. Mogul set the young Hogun free, laughing and telling him that he could live the rest of his tiny days, the last of an unwanted people.

Weapons Master of Asgard: Disgraced, injured, Hogun found his way to Asgard, where Odin's Einhenjar collected him and took him to one of the healers in the city. It was while recovering the old Odin One-Eyes, having had his ravens watching the young half-elf, that Hogun was offered a deal he could not refuse: Come to the palace, train with teh Einhenjar, be given all the tools you will need to succeed in an attack against Mogul, and when his location is found you will be released from service to do then what you could not now. The promise sustained Hogun, and the silence ate at his soul until laughter and song were all but a distant memory. He lived then, in Asgard, Odin's Weapons Master, training the Einhenjar, going with the Prince and the Warriors Three into battle, and waiting.

Powers

Enhanced Agility
Half-elf half-vanir, Hogun is more agile than the standard Aesir, but not as otherworldly and inhumanly graceful as a full blooded elf.

Enhanced Strength
Stronger than an elf, not quite as physically impressive as the aesir Einhenjar, Hogun is nevertheless far stronger than a typical creature of Earth. His life as Weapons Master has given him a hard compactness and practice at applying the strength his has.

Magic
The vanir are known to be more magically capable then their aesir cousins. As a half-vanir, Hogun is capable of wielding magic. He simply has no study or practice doing so.

Skills

Martial Combat
Hogun has spent lifetimes in the employ of the All-Father, and has mastered nearly every weapon that he has been given access to. He's mastered several forms of hand to hand combat as well. He had to have in order to have been given title and rank of Weapon Master of Asgard.

Dancing
In his youth, Hogun was a performer, the lead in his village's stage performances. He is skilled at various forms of dance and at blending dance forms with movements that look like combat.

Choreographed Combat
As a stage performer in halftar productions which seem a blend of kabuki theatre, kung-fu movies, and high-end opera, Hogun is highly skilled at choreographed combat, making 'fake combat' look real enough.

Singing
In his youth, Hogun was a singer. It's a talent he cultivated that he has since stopped practicing in earnest. His vocal range is still impressive and most trained opera singers would do unspeakable things to hit some of the notes Hogun can.

Improvise Weapon
With so many weapons mastered, Hogun has taken time to master making anything around him a weapon. A fork, the tray, the mug of ale in his hand, the lacing from one of his bracers, that pebble on the floor.

Weapons Master
As Weapons Master of Asgard, Hogun has living space in the Asgardian Palace, access to the Weapons Vault, clearance to request all but the most powerful relic weapon, access to enchanted armors and the like, food, drink, and coin enough to purchase what he'd like from markets across the Nine Realms.

Pros

Immortal
His elven blood keeps him mostly timeless. His vanir blood cries for a Golden Apple to restore his youth an vitality. If only he knew about that last bit…

B.S. Detector
The halftar language is more than tonal, it's melodic. Although it's been lifetimes since he's heard his own language, Hogun can hear the 'music' in the speech of others, music that hints are intents and emotions.

Cons

Rage
Seeing the whole of his village, of his race, destroyed or captured, set Hogun down a path of vengence. It's been centuries, but the hate he feels for those that destroyed his life still burns hot and fierce in his heart. All of his training and focus has been toward locating that group of people, and being a one-man army to destroy them all. No thought has been given to the possibility of survivors.

Golden Apple
Like the Vanir, Hogun's body can be restored and kept youthful upon the comsumption of a Golden Apple of Asgard.
